Kigali, July 15, 2025 — Professor Omar Munyaneza, Chief Executive Officer of WASAC Group, welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Malawi, currently in Rwanda for a week-long benchmarking study. The visit, taking place from July 15 to 19, 2025, aims to explore and learn from Rwanda’s best practices in water supply and sanitation service delivery.
The delegation is led by Mr. Peter K. Simbani, Comptroller of Statutory Corporations from the Office of the President of Malawi. It comprises seven high-level officials, including directors and deputy directors from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Lilongwe City Council.
During a detailed session with WASAC Group Management, the visitors were presented with an overview of the company’s operations, including the status of water supply and sanitation services in Rwanda. Key areas covered included commercial services, project planning, implementation, and monitoring frameworks used in managing water and sanitation infrastructure.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured Nzove Water Treatment Plant, the largest facility of its kind in the country to gain insights into Rwanda’s water treatment and distribution systems. This field visit provided an opportunity for technical exchange and learning, further enriched by open discussions with WASAC Group leadership.
“It was a great pleasure to visit WASAC Group. We are grateful for the warm welcome and the valuable exchanges we had. This visit will significantly contribute to enhancing water and sanitation service delivery in Malawi. I believe you also benefited from this mutual learning experience”, said Mr. Peter K. Simbani who headed the delegation.
As part of their visit, the delegation will also engage with WASAC Group’s key partners, including Water For People, the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), and Water Access Rwanda. These meetings aim to provide a broader understanding of Rwanda’s water and sanitation ecosystem, including regulatory frameworks, service delivery models, and innovative solutions.
