WASAC Group improves clean water availability for more than 130,000 residents of Ngororero District

The Ngororero Water Supply System project includes the Muhembe, Nyamyotsi, and Nyirarongero water supply systems. Funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), it involved the construction of 203 kilometers of pipelines, three water treatment plants with a total capacity of 3,074 cubic meters per day, 116 public water taps, and 41 reservoirs.
Residents express their appreciation for improved access to clean water.
The beneficiaries of the project have expressed profound gratitude for the enhanced access to clean water, which has greatly eased their difficulties. Residents recalled the struggles of traveling long distances to collect water and depending on unsafe sources, which led to waterborne diseases and disrupted their children`s education.
At the Kageshi Center in Kageyo Sector, Jean Bosco Muragijimana, a water tap manager, shared his happiness: "We faced a serious water shortage here. We used to spend around two hours fetching contaminated water, which caused illnesses like diarrhea. Those who couldn’t walk long distances had to pay 100 Rwandan Francs per jerrycan. Our children even missed school while searching for water. We are truly grateful to WASAC Group and the visionary leadership of our country for bringing clean water close to our homes."
Théresie Ugirimbabazi, a resident of Rususa Cell in Ngororero Sector, expressed similar feelings: "We received these water tap two months ago. Before, we had to fetch water from swamps two kilometers away. Now, clean water is available near our homes, and it’s more than enough. Our children wear clean clothes, drink safe water, and keeping things clean has become so much easier."
